Poor Choices

“GOOD LIGHTS MAKE GOOD NIGHTS” according to the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA). Based in Tucson Arizona, IDA offers lots of tips on outdoor lighting that aids safety while reducing your energy costs.
The illustrations on the right are fixtures that shield light and point it down which reduce glare and light trespass. “Using the lowest wattage bulb appropriate for the task and turn off the light when it’s not being used” is another tip IDA says will reduce monthly electric bills.

Good Choices

The Western Desert offers many areas that still have an excellent night sky.  Research shows high quality darkness throughout the crescent region.  Areas like Saddle Mountain and the Eagletail Mountains are enjoyed by astronomy enthusiasts.
Even more important is the value of ‘darkness’ to the regions wildlife. Avoiding light pollution aids wildlife by retaining the natural night environment.  In Arizona, noted dark-sky regions are also experiencing increased tourism. Help save the region’s night sky by using lighting like the fixtures below.
