Top left is monument built by miners possibly as a corner marker for a claim.
Top center group shows the danger posted at several mines but it is important to
realize many mines do not have signs, fences, or gates.
Left photo shows remnants of the Tonopah Belmont Silver Mine,in the Belmont Mountains, was
operated by the Tonopah Belmont Mining Company from Tonopah Nevada between 1928 and
1941.
Mining across the Western Desert began when gold was found west of the Hassayampa
River in 1863.
Today, thousands of dangerous pits and shafts, of mines exist.
Many of these holes in the earth are not marked and can be near roads and structures
so be careful when exploring
the desert.
